Sunny and Cal’s island elopement

A BEACH ELOPEMENT AT MARS BLUFF, BRUNY ISLAND, TASMANIA.

Meet Sunny & Cal, who opted for a non-traditional elopement on Bruny Island.
After a hike down to the beach, the pair (alongside their son Teddy) got hitched under The Arch at Mars Bluff. After a short and sweet ceremony, there was champagne showers, sandy feet and ocean swims – we are here for it! Here’s what they have to say about their day!👇

A LITTLE ABOUT SUNNY & CAL

Cal and I have been together for almost a decade. We met on a flight to Spain (we were both competing for Australia to play underwater hockey). We really hit it off and made the most of our small amount of spare time whilst there.. Think making out in every elevator, sneaking into each other's hotel rooms late at night. We dated and became the best of friends and we both moved to Tasmania. In Tassie we have had many adventures exploring the state. We still share a love for underwater hockey and play regularly. We are always heading out to the beach on weekends and now bringing our little son Teddy with us. We are both people who love the outdoors so having an elopement on the beach just made sense.

ELOPEMENT LOCATIONS

We eloped at The Arch, Mars Bluff, Bruny Island. We walked in carrying everything and walked out married. ❤️

HOW MANY GUESTS DID YOU HAVE?

Cal, Sunny and our son Teddy... Plus our photographers and celebrant.

WHAT TRADITIONS DID YOU KEEP OR DROP?

We opted for a relaxed fun ceremony, no guests so we could really focus on just having a great day out together. We dropped most of the traditional wedding stuff and just focused on what we wanted out of the day.

We were finding it hard to decide where to get married (Sunny from Western Australia, Cal from Victoria and no family in Tassie) it was becoming a nightmare thinking about having to get friends and family to travel plus a big cost. We realised we could get hitched, just the two of us and still have an amazing day with no stress and crazy planning. Ditching all the big wedding things really made us focus on us and we had the best time!

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE DAY?

Going for a swim after getting covered in bubbles.

ANY ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES WANTING A NON-TRADITIONAL DAY?

Don't worry if your family and friends will initially be a little sad that they weren't there.
They will love to hear the story of how your day was. It’s also a great excuse to bring out the photo album and show them.

Make the day how you want it and leave behind the traditional wedding. Really think about what you and your partner enjoy and want out of the day. It can be as big or as little as you want it, but it can still be super special even if it's not the standard. Ohh and always have cake and bubbles and don't forget to have fun together.
